'Serotiny' is a botanical term that can refer to plants adapted to release their seeds under extreme conditions e.g. fires. In the case of the shore pine (Pinus contorta), the hot temperature of the fire melts the resin-sealed scales of the pine cone to release the seeds within. Through destruction, Mother Nature is nurturing and brings new life.
